The new Ballast Water Treatment
Convention recently took effect on September 8, 2017 updating regulatory
requirements enforced by the Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC),
a division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The new regulations aim to control the
spread of aquatic invasive species from one region to another in the ballast water of international ships, which has wreaked havoc on many ecosystems around
the world.
With new global regulations
enforced just last month, shipping companies are expected to have an effective ballast water treatment system as the spread of harmful organisms in ships’
ballast water is proven to be one of the largest threats to the sustainability
of our Planet’s oceans.
The LightSources group recognizes
the importance of ballast water clear from disease and harmful organisms, and
has developed highly effective and cost-efficient ultraviolet ballast water
treatment systems meeting US Coast Guard approval. With our global partners, the LightSources group
has presence on three continents making us well positioned as a key global supplier
of industrial UV germicidal water treatment systems.
Advantages of UV Ballast Water
Treatment Systems
UV
ballast water treatment systems provide many advantages over alternative
methods, such as chemical treatment of water.
With UV germicidal lamps, eradicating harmful organisms requires no
harsh chemicals such as chlorine treatment systems that can often require a
second treatment to remove harmful residue.
There is no need to store an inventory of harmful chemicals and disperse
them into the very water we are aiming to protect.
UV germicidal lamps are proven
highly effective with very low maintenance, especially UV germicidal lamps from
the LightSources group. We utilize
proprietary technology to develop our patented products offering a wide variety of UV germicidal lamps, adaptable to virtually any UV germicidal ballast water
treatment system.
LightSources and our affiliated
companies comprise the leading high-tech designers and manufacturers in the
lamp industry today. We offer standard lamps and components as well
as customized products providing high-quality solutions to meet our partner’s
unique needs. Contact us today to speak to one of our expert engineers
