UV Light Instantly Cures Polymers

Ultraviolet (UV) light is utilized in many industrial and commercial applications to instantly cure, harden and strengthen polymers quickly and effectively. UV light instantly causes a photochemical reaction when exposed to polymers such as epoxies, lacquers, glues, polyurethane and various polymers. UV curing offers many benefits over other drying methods such as air drying or the use of chemicals.

Benefits of UV Curing

Improved Quality

UV curing offers many benefits due to the instant drying time which does not allow for evaporation as can occur with air drying. The instant curing provides a more consistent surface with no chance of dust or particles drying in the coating and is smooth compared to air dried surfaces, which produces a higher quality of product.

Increased Production

With instant curing, cycle times are increased and productivity is maximized for increased production. UV curing is instant, quicker than air drying or the use of chemicals, which pose additional challenges for companies.

Safe for Employees

UV curing is completely safe, with no need to purchase, store or dispose of harmful chemicals. Parts can pass under UV light while on a conveyor or other automated system without the need for employees to apply chemicals which may be hazardous to health.

All of these benefits equate to increased profitability with a higher level of quality product produced in quicker cycles. Improved quality results in increased customer satisfaction with new and repeat business opportunities.

Powerful Water Sterilization with UV Technology

Advancements in ultraviolet (UV) technology provide powerful sterilization to air, surface and water treatment applications. UV radiation is proven to effectively eliminate viruses, bacteria, fungi and microorganisms from water with safe treatment methods. UV water sterilization is used in a number of water treatment processes such as:

  • Water reclamation
  • Aquaculture
  • Water treatment plants
  • Ballast water in ships
  • Municipalities water treatment
  • Drinking water
  • Food and beverage

UV radiation is used to eliminate harmful contaminants in these applications and many others.

UV Technology for Water Reclamation

Waste water treatment plants and water reclamation facilities benefit from UV radiation from UV germicidal lamps. UV germicidal lamps are used to sterilize water to kill germs and prevent illness.

Marine Hatcheries and Aquaculture

Marine hatcheries and fish farms utilize the power of UV water sterilization to keep their fish and marine life healthy and free from viruses. Water preserves and aquariums realize many benefits from UV germicidal lamps which eliminate harmful marine microorganisms.

UV Lamps Treat Ballast Water in Ships

The shipping industry is required to treat ballast water in ships traveling to foreign ports to eliminate the spread of disease through contaminated water. Eliminating the threat of transporting harmful marine organisms such as poisonous jellyfish or invading mussels is one of the most important things we can do to provide sustainability to the world’s oceans. UV ballast water treatment systems are approved by the U.S. Coast Guard and proven to be safe and effective.

LCDL manufactures miniature lighting for precision and high performance applications such as:

  • Avionic displays
  • NASA space shuttle
  • Computer backlighting
  • Signs
  • Fluorescent lighting applications

Hot Cathode Fluorescent Lamps

LCDL designs, engineers and manufactures hot cathode fluorescent lamps (HCFL) in varying lengths and diameters ranging from T2 to T12. The letter T signifies a tubular design while the number represents an 1/8 of an inch. This means that a T8 is a tubular fluorescent lamp that is exactly one inch in diameter. LCDL manufactures HCFL lamps which range in size from ¼” to 1 ½” in diameter.

HCFL lamps are found in many applications such as automotive, aerospace, computers, graphic arts, signs, displays, medical devices and many others.

Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamps

Cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL) are ideal in applications such as neon signs where bendable lighting is required. CCFL lamps are designed with an electrode rather than a filament as in HCFL lamps. CCFL miniature lamps are common in automotive and avionic displays, military applications, backlighting in computers and many others miniature lighting applications. LCDL miniature lamps can be found in these lighting applications and many more which require long lasting, high performance and energy efficient lighting solutions.

UV Phototherapy Lamps Help Treat Eczema

Many people suffering from eczema are seeking relief from dry itchy patches of skin. Eczema is a skin condition with no known cure, although many treatments are available to control bothersome symptoms. Ointments, corticosteroids, and UV phototherapy lamps are all treatments which improve symptoms and control outbreaks.

A specialty phototherapy lamp delivers ultraviolet (UV) radiation at just the right wavelength for effective light therapy treatment. Phototherapy should be delivered only the advice of a physician in a controlled setting. Some people may be prescribed a phototherapy lamp to take home and use under specific directions. Light therapy is often helpful in controlling symptoms of people who live in the northern hemisphere that experience increased outbreaks during the winter months.

How Does Light Therapy Treat Eczema?

Light is emitted in wavelengths, divided by colors and measured with nanometers (nm). Ultraviolet is broken into UVA, UVB and UVC wavelengths with UVA measuring between 315nm to 400nm and UVB measuring from 280nm to 315nm. The narrow band of UVB light in the range of 310nm is specifically successful at treating eczema symptoms. Narrow band UVB is effective by suppressing the overactive immune system to reduce inflammation and is the most common form of UV light therapy used to treat eczema.

UVA light is also used in conjunction with a medication to improve the skin’s ability to absorb the UVA rays. Psoralen is often prescribed with UVA treatment to reach optimum absorption to improve eczema symptoms.

LightSources Offers UV Light Therapy Lamps

LightSources is a leading manufacturer of UV lamps used in phototherapy lamps to treat a host of medical conditions. Phototherapy is proven effective at relieving symptoms of eczema, acne, vitiligo, psoriasis and other conditions such as depression. Be sure to work with a reputable phototherapy lamp supplier to ensure the right amount of UVA, UVB or UVC exposure.

Using fluorescent lamps which are not designed to treat specific medications can make conditions worse and not produce the desired effect. LightSources offers phototherapy lamps designed by skilled lamp engineers who understand the technology behind UV lamp radiation. We provide specialty lamps with custom phosphor blends to reach the maximum UV output for your specifications.

LightSources and our valued partners offer high-tech lighting solutions that meet the required specifications for successful phototherapy results. Contact us today to speak with an engineer and learn more about our UV phototherapy lamps.
