Get Compliant to the Ballast Water Treatment Convention

The new Ballast Water Treatment Convention recently took effect on September 8, 2017 updating regulatory requirements enforced by the Marine Environmental Protection Committee (MEPC), a division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).   The new regulations aim to control the spread of aquatic invasive species from one region to another in the ballast water of international ships, which has wreaked havoc on many ecosystems around the world.
With new global regulations enforced just last month, shipping companies are expected to have an effective ballast water treatment system as the spread of harmful organisms in ships’ ballast water is proven to be one of the largest threats to the sustainability of our Planet’s oceans.
The LightSources group recognizes the importance of ballast water clear from disease and harmful organisms, and has developed highly effective and cost-efficient ultraviolet ballast water treatment systems meeting US Coast Guard approval.   With our global partners, the LightSources group has presence on three continents making us well positioned as a key global supplier of industrial UV germicidal water treatment systems.
Advantages of UV Ballast Water Treatment Systems
UV ballast water treatment systems provide many advantages over alternative methods, such as chemical treatment of water.  With UV germicidal lamps, eradicating harmful organisms requires no harsh chemicals such as chlorine treatment systems that can often require a second treatment to remove harmful residue.  There is no need to store an inventory of harmful chemicals and disperse them into the very water we are aiming to protect.
UV germicidal lamps are proven highly effective with very low maintenance, especially UV germicidal lamps from the LightSources group.  We utilize proprietary technology to develop our patented products offering a wide variety of UV germicidal lamps, adaptable to virtually any UV germicidal ballast water treatment system.
LightSources and our affiliated companies comprise the leading high-tech designers and manufacturers in the lamp industry today.  We offer standard lamps and components as well as customized products providing high-quality solutions to meet our partner’s unique needs.  Contact us today to speak to one of our expert engineers for assistance with developing and designing your approved ballast water treatment system.

Phototherapy Promotes Healing for Skin Disorders

Light Therapy, also known as Phototherapy, is recognized world-wide for providing many health benefits for a wide variety of medical conditions.  Phototherapy is most often provided in fluorescent light, emitted at specific wavelengths to treat specific conditions.
Phototherapy for Skin Conditions
One of the most common conditions treated with phototherapy is jaundice in newborn babies.  Babies are born with a certain degree of jaundice, which occurs when toxins in the body are not broken down completely by the liver.  This causes a yellowing of the whites of the eyes and the skin, as toxins build up in the body.  Bilirubin is a yellow compound that is usually broken down by the liver, but when jaundice occurs and babies need help, shortwave UV light is used to breakdown the bilirubin.
These lights are called “bili lights”, and are highly effective when exposed to bare skin. Babies are placed under UV lights with nothing but a diaper for maximum exposure.  Specific lighting can be sent home with parents with instructions to use for a specified period of time.
Psoriasis and Skin Disorders Treated with Phototherapy
Light therapy is proven effective with healing many skin disorders and especially for people suffering from psoriasis, acne and eczema.   Exposure to UV light from UVA and UVB lamps is proven to decelerate the growth of skin cells and aid healing to those suffering with psoriasis.  UV light is also used to treat eczema which is an inflammatory condition caused from an overactive immune system.  Exposure to fluorescent lamps suppress the immune system and reduce inflamed, swollen and itchy skin.
Acne is a result of bacteria in the skin causing inflammation in the form of a pimple when the immune system attacks the bacteria.  Red and blue light therapy in wavelengths of 600 – 700 nanometer (nm) is combined to treat acne with successful results.  Red Light therapy is proven to sooth inflammation and stimulate cell growth to promote healing and regeneration.  Blue light at 415 nm is most effective at killing bacteria, preventing breakouts from acne.

Innovative Technology for Tanning Lamp Solutions

With summer officially over and the beautiful colors of fall abound, many people are flocking to tanning beds to keep their golden hue.  If your tanning business is getting busier and you want to please your customers with the best tanning lamps in the industry, you need to make only one call to the LightSources group.  We offer the highest performing, longest lasting tanning lamps available, providing customer satisfaction and cost saving efficiencies.
Variety of Tanning Lamps for All Skin Types
LightSources and our European partner, LightTech, are continually conducting research and development, leading to several patented lighting solutions and proprietary technology.  We offer tanning lamps in strengths varying from 2.6 UVB to 9.5 UVB, providing tanning solutions for a variety of skin types.
LightSources offers A-Power™ technology, bringing the effects of high pressure tanning lamps in a low-pressure lamp solution for the first time.  High pressure lamps have long provided a long lasting and darker tan, but only in high-pressure lamp settings, until we introduced A-Power.
SolGlass® is patented technology developed by LightSources based on new glass technology combined with a proprietary phosphor blend.  No other tanning lamp in the industry meets the UVB spectrum and UVA readings that SolGlass delivers, allowing more than 75% of UVB energy to pass through the glass, compared to a typical tanning lamp at 36%.
Peak2 Tedchnology delivers a longer lasting bronze tan with a unique phosphor mix allowing both UVA and UVB output.  This combination is like having two lamps in one, with dual spectral peaks securing maximum range of pigmentation.
MultiTone™ Tanning Lamps
Not all body parts tan at the same rate, that’s why we developed multitone tanning lamps to give your customers an even and natural tan without subjecting more delicate skin on faces to high-pressure units.   MutliTone™ is like having two or even three lamps in one, with patented lamp coatings that create distinct zones in a single lamp.
LightSources and LightTech offer the most advanced tanning lamp solutions in the industry, assisting clients with developing their own patented products for increased brand awareness and market share.  When you are choosing your preferred suppliers for tanning lamp solutions, contact LightSources for the latest technology and affordable costs.
