Phototherapy Provides Healing Benefits

Fluorescent lighting is used to treat many health, skin and mood disorders providing healing benefits for various medical conditions.  This light therapy is so effective, it is also known as phototherapy, and is used worldwide providing safe, fast and proven effective results for various medical conditions.  Fluorescent lighting emitted at particular wavelengths, provides treatment for various conditions at particular Nanometer (Nm).

Phototherapy Heals Skin Conditions

Many people suffer from psoriasis, an immune related disease that causes red, scaly patches to appear on the skin.  There are various forms of psoriasis, some more serious than others, with most appearing as itchy red areas with stinging and burning sensations.  The National Psoriasis Foundation supports the use of phototherapy to treat psoriasis, but only with a prescription and under a doctor’s orders.  They also warn that indoor tanning beds do not provide the same treatment as prescribed UV light.

Phototherapy in the form of UVB light provides maximum effectiveness for psoriasis, and patients can be given an at home treatment lamp with just the right amount of healing UVB rays.   Exposure to UVB rays causes the affected area to slow down the production of skin cells, allowing the area to heal.

UV light can also treat other skin conditions such as eczema and acne by suppressing an overactive immune system, and reducing the symptoms of itchy and inflamed skin.  Fluorescent wavelengths in the range of 415 nm are effective at killing bacteria, aiding in clearing skin affected with acne.

Phototherapy for Jaundice

Jaundice is a condition causing a yellowing of the skin and the whites of the eyes, and can be common in newborn babies.  The yellowing of the skin is caused by a build-up of toxins in the body as the liver cannot break down these toxins like a healthy fully functioning liver.   “Bili” lights are used to break down bilirubin, thus improving jaundice in newborn infants.   New parents can be sent home with the specialty lighting, while nurturing their newborns onto healthy livers with these fluorescent lights.

Light Therapy and Diabetes

Light therapy can be used in different ways to help people with diabetes.  UV light can aid in wound healing, providing safe and effective treatment to speed up healing and fight infection by killing bacteria and viruses.

UV light is also used to treat a severe eye condition called diabetic retinopathy, which damages the retina in 80% of diabetic people that have had the disease for 20 years or more.  Diabetic retinopathy is the leading cause of blindness in people ages 20 to 64.  Light therapy can reduce this disease from progressing in a surprising 90% of all new cases with proper treatment and monitoring.

Mood and Emotional Disorders Improved with Phototherapy

Many mood and emotional disorders are much improved with exposure to UV light.  Those suffering from depression, especially that caused by less exposure to daylight hours can be improved by UV exposure in as little as one week.

Consistency is important for any type of phototherapy to be effective.

LightSources Provides Proven Phototherapy Solutions

The experts at LightSources have vast experience with all ranges of the UV light spectrum, providing knowledgeable assistance with the proper lamps for your application.  We have lamps for existing light therapy mechanisms, or we can manufacture custom lamps to fit your custom equipment.

Germicidal UVC Technology from LightSources

Germicidal UVC technology is quickly becoming the most popular choice for air, surface and water disinfection and sterilization.  Harnessing the power of UV radiation for germicidal applications has many advantages over other methods such as chemical use that can emit harmful irritants or residue, or filtration that can be ineffective.  Germicidal UVC lamps provide powerful sterilization with very simple and safe methods.

Germicidal UVC lamps are used in various settings that require clean air, water and surfaces such as hospitals, doctor’s offices, the food and restaurant industry, water filtration plants and air purification systems including HVAC applications.   UV germicidal lamps remove harmful bacterial from air and water, while also providing the powerful effect of removing odor from the air.

Innovative Technologies Provide Effective Air Sterilization

Wastewater and sewage treatment facilities utilize the power of UVC Germicidal lamps to remove bacteria from the air, thus eliminating odor as well.   LightSources provides powerful UV lamp technology using low pressure mercury lamps, and low pressure amalgam lamps for effective air sterilization and odor removal.

Ultraviolet radiation technology removes harmful contaminants in the air, eradicates odors, and purifies the air by targeting the nuclei of the cells destroying them which makes them completely unable to multiply.  This sterilization process is effective and beneficial in many healthcare settings such as hospitals where people gathering could have respiratory illnesses, asthma, or dire consequences if exposed to airborne illness that could exacerbate an already compromised health condition.  In this case, air purification is crucial for optimum health.

Removal of these harmful contaminants and odor causing organisms is also advantageous in many industrial settings such as farms, food processing plants, commercial kitchens and restaurants, and waste water treatment plants.

LightSources is a global leader supplying UVC germicidal lamp products to various OEMs world-wide, providing effective solutions for removal of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

UV Curing Creates Unbreakable Bond

Ultraviolet light used as a curing agent with a polymer creates a bond stronger than any type of typical super glue you may be used to.  This particular polymer that reacts with UV light is usually silicon glue, or another polymer such as polyurethane or an epoxy, that will ‘cure’ or dry clear only when exposed to UV light.   The photochemical reaction happens quickly, usually drying within only three seconds.

There are many advantages of UV glue curing over other methods; the quick cure time is one clear advantage, along with the superior bonding over other methods.  UV curing of polymers creates an often unbreakable bond, stronger and superior over other methods such as air drying or use of chemicals.

Drying of glues, adhesives or polymers always incorporates evaporation which can be an inconsistent process leaving inconsistent products.  The speed at which UV light provides a dry, sealed bond eliminates evaporation leaving a consistently cured, and quality improved product.  Use of chemicals can also create an inconsistent process and product, while potentially exposing employees to harmful contaminants.

Curing glue or bonding agents with UV light provides a consistent process resulting in a consistently superior product, with an instantly hardened surface created with no exposure to harmful contaminants.

Benefits of UV Glue Curing
UV glue curing is a powerful photochemical reaction, providing several benefits over other methods.  The fact that the polymer will not harden until exposed to UV light is a huge advantage, allowing for targeted areas to experience the unbreakable bond, while not contaminating unwanted areas with glue.
A second layer may be applied, and quickly harden, to supply a stronger bond that can be sanded down, painted or stained.  This versatile process is used in several manufacturing applications, including automotive, aerospace, graphic design and printing, and various other manufacturing processes.
