Learn the Healing Benefits of Phototherapy

Fluorescent lighting is used worldwide to provide healing benefits for a number of various medical ailments.   Treatment with light is called phototherapy, and is very effective to treat many conditions.
Skin Conditions Treated with Phototherapy
The use of phototherapy to treat skin conditions such as psoriasis is endorsed by the National Psoriasis Foundation when treated under a doctor’s care.  Indoor tanning beds are not the same as phototherapy for psoriasis as they do not emit the same UV light as prescribed by a doctor.
Ultraviolet light in the UVB range provides the most effective treatment for psoriasis.  Patients are often sent home with a special treatment lamp to receive the proper amount of UVB rays.  This is effective by slowing down production of new skin cells and allows the area to heal.
Ultraviolet light is also effective at treating many other skin conditions such as acne and eczema, and reduces the symptoms of inflamed and itchy skin.
UV Light Provides Phototherapy to Treat Jaundice
Jaundice is most common in newborn babies and occurs when the liver does not break down toxins as a fully functioning liver would.  UV light is effective at breaking down bilirubin and new parents can be sent home with these ‘bili’ lights to nurture their baby’s liver into a fully functioning state.
Diabetes Improved with Light Therapy
People suffering from diabetes can benefit greatly from phototherapy.  Ultraviolet light is highly effective at aiding would healing by killing bacteria and fighting infection.  UV light is also used to treat diabetic retinopathy, a serious eye condition that is the leading cause of blindness in people between the ages of 20 and 64.  Diabetic Retinopathy damages the retina in 80% of diabetics that have had diabetes for more than 20 years.
The good news is that this is preventable if treated early.  Phototherapy lessens the progression of this disease in 90% of all cases.
Depression and Mood Disorders Benefit from Phototherapy
People suffering from depression and mood disorders benefit greatly from phototherapy.  Exposure to UV light enhances the mood of those suffering from seasonal affective disorder when the daylight hours are lessened during winter months.  People often feel better within one week of treatment.  Consistency is key for phototherapy to be effective at treating mood disorders.

What is CRI and How It Can Benefit You?

CRI is a term used in the lighting industry and stands for Color Rendering Index, which is a rating scale used to measure the effectiveness of a light source to render colors when compared to natural daylight.  Natural Daylight has a CRI of 100, which is the highest score available.  A lower CRI of 50 or less indicates that the source of light is not conducive to rendering colors very well.  In fluorescent lighting, a CRI rating of 80 to 95 is an excellent rating of color rendering ability.
Industry Uses of Excellent CRI
Using the right lighting in your business can render great rewards, in terms displaying your products in a better and more appealing light.  Knowing the CRI of your light source will benefit your business, and your customer satisfaction.
If you own a jewelry store, you would want your jewels, diamonds, gold and silver displayed with lighting that provides a high quality of color rendering, and registers high on the CRI scale.  A high-quality light with an elevated CRI rating will really bounce light off of your diamonds and allow the flashy colors to show through, pleasing your customers and enticing a purchase.
A favorable CRI index rating is also quite desirable in the clothing industry, improving the appearance of displays allowing vibrant colors to show through.   The restaurant and food industries also benefit from a high CRI index, as showcasing healthy red meats or desirable desserts influences a consumer’s choice when ordering their meal.
As you can see, the effectiveness of your lighting plays a big role in the success of your business.
LCD Lighting Provides Enhanced CRI Index Lighting
LCD Lighting, (LCDL), is a leading specialty lamp designer and a valued partner to the LightSources group.   LCDL conducts continual research and development, with proprietary color rendering index technology that contains additional rare-Earth phosphors that let the natural light through to reveal true colors.
LCDL and LightSources can help you to choose an existing phosphor blend or we can develop a custom blend specific to your needs.
