What is CRI and How It Can Benefit You?

CRI is a term used in the lighting industry and stands for Color Rendering Index, which is a rating scale used to measure the effectiveness of a light source to render colors when compared to natural daylight.  Natural Daylight has a CRI of 100, which is the highest score available.  A lower CRI of 50 or less indicates that the source of light is not conducive to rendering colors very well.  In fluorescent lighting, a CRI rating of 80 to 95 is an excellent rating of color rendering ability.
Industry Uses of Excellent CRI
Using the right lighting in your business can render great rewards, in terms displaying your products in a better and more appealing light.  Knowing the CRI of your light source will benefit your business, and your customer satisfaction.
If you own a jewelry store, you would want your jewels, diamonds, gold and silver displayed with lighting that provides a high quality of color rendering, and registers high on the CRI scale.  A high-quality light with an elevated CRI rating will really bounce light off of your diamonds and allow the flashy colors to show through, pleasing your customers and enticing a purchase.
A favorable CRI index rating is also quite desirable in the clothing industry, improving the appearance of displays allowing vibrant colors to show through.   The restaurant and food industries also benefit from a high CRI index, as showcasing healthy red meats or desirable desserts influences a consumer’s choice when ordering their meal.
As you can see, the effectiveness of your lighting plays a big role in the success of your business.
